"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer."
Brick by brick my citizens, brick by brick.

Maura's HP Thing of the Day:
Day 5
Wow. Umm, productive night with the spoilers. Yeah.
It's sitting on my computer... begging me to read it.... I shall resist. I do not want to ruin the whole story for myself. I do not want to. No.
I'll admit I looked at it, I flicked around on the files. What I have stops on 495 (Chapter 24 The Wandmaker). Part 2 should be up sometime Monday, I guess. I'm not going to read it. It's not even good quality. A lot of the words are difficult to read. I want my reading of the last book to be fun and exciting and I will not allow myself to ruin it this way!
I won't.
I won't!
I need to turn the computer off now. OK. Yes, stepping away from the computer.

Maura's HP Thing of the Day:
Day 6
(I'm surprised I've gotten this far along.) Know Your Role Ginny Weasley!
As a minor secondary character there are things you can and cannot do. We have complied a helpful list for you, feel free to print it out, carry it with you at all times during DH and consult it frequently.
-You may sit the war out completely at home with your mother. The two of you can knit sweaters and bake scones. - You may not join in the fight. You're a girl, you're stupid, you're have no useful skills- aside for a baby maker to be used only in the epilogue. - Feel free to join the DA and ...practice fighting at school some more. Won't that be fun? Look at you little solider girl with your pointy wand! Where's my camera?! - Do not try to hunt for Horcruxes! You'll be in way over your head. You know nothing of Horcruxes or have any personal experience with a young, arrogant, rather gabby Tom Riddle. - You may get yourself captured by Voldemort to be used as bait! Yay! Won't that be fun? Be sure to take long, lonely walks completely in the open in order to make your abduction as painless as possible...for the Deatheaters who take you. - Do not even attempt to rekindle your romance with Harry until after Voldemort is defeated. It won't help him, love may be his power but not your kind of "source of greatest comfort love". No, it's Harry's love for his friends that will help him, or the love for his dead parents. - You may sacrifice yourself for Harry. Death can't be that bad, can it? Dumbledore always talked it up! He just started his "next great adventure" if you hurry you may be able to catch him! -Do not attempt to move above your station as a character. You are a second tier character, that would be on par with a Luna or a Neville. NOT A RON OR HERMIONE! - You are permitted to be a vague, distant motivation for Harry to complete his tasks. But always remain a safe distance away from him and NEVER try to contact him. -Do not attempt to help Harry with his big-boy jobs. You're his support. His long, long distance support. He doesn't need you for "thinking" or "action" jobs. You're the cheerleader. Whip out those pom-poms! Harry is the athlete. You are his athletic-supporter. His lady jock-strap. Oh, that works on two levels. - Feel free to use your time constructively. While the others plan attacks or go on secret missions, you can help plan the wedding, or date other boys (it's what your good at), or just stand around and look pretty. - Do not try to think for yourself. Everyone else knows what's best for you. Mum, Dad, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Bill, Fleur, Luna, Crookshanks, Pig, Arnold they all know what you should be doing, the limits of your capabilities. Mum wants you to leave the room so the adults can talk, fold you hands neatly, nod once and do it without question. Harry wants you to stay safe locked up in Gryffindor tower, thank him sweetly and glide gracefully up those stairs. In short, know your role Ginny Weasley! We'd all appreciate it.
Thanks, The fandom that loathes ...er... loves you.
Argh. There are reasons I'm not allowed to go to certain places and read certain things. Yuck.

Maura's HP Thing of the Day:
Day 7
One week left and things have gotten awfully crazy.
Speaking of crazy I just got word from a very dear, old friend of mine (who is in the position to know) that in DH- Hagrid, Luna and Lupin all die...not a surprise you say. Well, let's just say they all died together, things were pretty freaky and that Hagrid is half-giant everywhere but where'd you'd expect it. Snape and Neville open a quaint patisserie together in Hogsmeade and bake everything fresh from the oven each morning. Also, R.A.B. is not Sirius's brother Regulus Black but Rotho Abstern Belvin...he was in the drummer of the Hobgoblins with Stubby Boardman. He died in a bizarre gardening accident.
But without a doubt the biggest shock of all.......Mark Evans is a horcrux! Crazy!
*wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

Maura's Harry Potter Thing of the Day
Day 9
I passed all my tests on J.K. Rowling.com, now where's my prize? Did I miss it? I took these tests which were long and made me feel both geeky and like a complete moron at the same time! Where's my special present? Where, I ask you?

Potter friends the end is nigh.
And as such events demand, I have dedicated myself (in my half assed fashion) to a mission, a project, a daily posting on my LJ until we reach the Saturday to end all Saturdays.
Welcome to...
Maura's Harry Potter Thing of the Day
Woo!
Day 10:
We begin as we mean to go on and start in things all good and lovely, the realm of H/G.
I feel like an idiot. Until, it was mentioned on Forever (by Bill/Mongo I believe) I don't think I ever really connected the "beast in Harry's chest" as his beast of love, beast of power. Duh. It couldn't be more obvious. I understood that "the beast" was Harry's desire for Ginny and his growing unnamed feelings for her but I just never really connected these strong emotions and impulses, that Harry feels is like a monster living in his chest, with his greatest asset against Voldemort. His power of love lives in his chest and it's snarly. Surprise, surprise who provoked it's first stirrings... not Cho, not Ron and Hermione, not Sirius, not his abstract parental love, nope...it was Ginny Weasley.
We are going to love this book.

The very nice thing about sharing a birthday with your older sister is that she's always older than you. Every year, without fail, she's always older. Good times, good times.
Yet Anna Nicole Smith has died under mysterious circumstances. Bad omen or good omen? You be the judge. Maybe just bizzaro and sad but not an omen at all. My sister did say this was to be the YEAR OF MAURA, and I don't believe that Anna Nicole had any bearing on that bit of prophecy.
Tis the most auspicious occasion of the first day of my twenty-sixth year. My true inauguration into adulthood. I shall swill white wine at classy parties. I will go to the opera and cry poignant, silent tears. Yes, tis true. Maura is all growds up.
I'm celebrating ya'll.

[ | | updated on October 8th,2006 ;; 06AM | | ] |

Oh Yeah. Enough said. (Sorry Kathy.)
I'm so excited I don't even care that the game I had tickets for won't be played! Seriously, the Mets win the NL East, the Braves don't even get the wild card, the Mets sweep their games in the NLDS and move on to the National League Championship and then on the very same day the Yankees are eliminated from the playoffs by the Tigers! The baseball gods have smiled on me this season! Joyous day!
So, where to next St. Louis or San Diego?

Feel free to ignore. I know I'm the only one who cares. I've won a purchase opportunity to see the Mets in a NLDC playoff game. I am so excited I can't string together a coherent sentence. The Mets are one game away from clinching the NL East after embarrassing the competition all season long (most particularly the Braves who have won the division title for the last 14 years. Yes, 14 years). Not even Pedro's less than stellar comeback tonight and loss of the opportunity for a very pretty clinch can bring me down. Tomorrow I'll worry about Pedro's form and the Mets dismal offense against lefty pitchers. Tonight I will bask in my future tickets that I shall buy and this whole fantastic season. WEEEEEEEEE!!
 Let's Go Mets! WOOF!

I'm back and had a fabulously good time.
When telling people that I was going to a charity book reading I discovered two things: that sounds completely nerdy and I need to make some new friends and acquaintances. Anyway, here's my review of the nights events. I'm going to go for accuracy but my memory may be faulty but I'm sure The Leaky Cauldron and Mugglenet will have much more accurate stuff. Handy recording devices they have, darn them!

An Important Note from Maura:
Something rather distasteful to me happened on my LJ over the weekend and I feel the need to address it. I don't f-lock my posts for several reasons: I don't feel like I garner the amount of attention in the fandom where I need to, I'm not ashamed of anything I've said on my LJ or anywhere else on the internet and don't feel the need to hide it, finally, I honestly appreciate comments from new people. That said, I do have a few friends on LJ that I value and I do not appreciate my LJ being used as a platform to harass one of them. That is completely unacceptable to me and makes me irately angry. So, to sum up, stalkers, irritants, annoyances and all other form of jerks will be banned quickly, quietly and without compunction.
Just a general note to ...me and the five of you reading this. Well, self-important as it may be I felt the need to put it out there. So, good for me.
Anyway, real update stuff...I'm so completely and totally bummed out I missed the HGF chat over the weekend. I went to Boston on Thursday and I didn't even know there was going to be one held. Better that way I suppose because I would have been sad during my trip. How was it? What did you all talk about? Was it the awesomest chat of all chats ever?! I'm jealous.
OH! Also, question news...I convinced the third person in my party to give me their question so I actually got to ask three! Hooray! I should have copied the questions so I could paste them here but alas...I'm not that smart. The topics of my questions were McG (for Mouse and my own curiosity), the epilogue (thanks Kathy!), and Ginny, the bashing of/love potion o'doom, her role with Harry and the war (you should have seen this question, it's construction, with all those topics, was a thing of beauty). So thanks to everyone who commented, as you can see I took your comments to heart! Anyway, I haven't received any e-mails from them (which was a possibility) but I guess we'll see tomorrow!
As for my speedy and detailed notes on the nights events, I guess I'll put that here and maybe start a thread at Forever.

| Questions, questions everywhere and not a thought to think. |
[ | | updated on July 26th,2006 ;; 04AM | | ] |
In less than a week I shall be in the audience of a very special charity function. Hanging on a beloved author's every word with bated breath, as us fan girl-women are wont to do. As such, I find myself presented with the opportunity to ask a question (actually two questions). Of course, this has left me feeling stunted and uninspired. Thus is my dilemma.
What do I ask?
What do I want to know?
How can I ask it so that I get a revealing answer?
So, great internet ether built of tubes and things that spark (or more specifically anyone on my friends list), feel free to throw out a topic or idea, even a question if you have one ready-made.
(Also, hey, yeah, hi there. Not dead or anything.)

Nothing at all to do with anything but if anyone reading this (all two of you) has or had any interest in MTVs The State , the movie Wet Hot American Summer, Comedy Central's Viva Variety or Reno911 mosey on over to Comedy Central's site right now and watch Stella. It's brilliant and hilariously funny (as Stella comedy typically is) and I must spread the word.
Watch it. Seriously, watch it. Please. Do it, old maid. It's funny, I swear. It's ridiculously absurd, satirical, and is incredibly fast-paced (for one enormous sketch)....just like the State of yore. And there's a special guest apperance that is just plain awesome!

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh-Shut Up! Just Shut up. It's over.

Looking at that makes me want to write haiku.
